It's our annual AC JumpStart showcase - reimagined. Get inspired by some of the region's most promising startups and: #FindYourSpark
The Accelerator Centre is pleased to announce SPARK 2020, its annual AC JumpStart Showcase event, to put a public spotlight on southern Ontario’s thriving startup scene and the founders behind some of Ontario’s most innovative startups.
SPARK 2020 is the AC’s annual showcase even for AC JumpStart recipients – reimagined for the work-from-home age.
Premiering on Monday, November 16th, aligned with Global Entrepreneurship Week, SPARK 2020, will feature AC JumpStart recipients, from cohorts 11-14 of the AC JumpStart program and will highlight the real-life inspirations that drive them to innovate through uncertain times.
With funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and delivered in partnership with Conestoga College, the University of Guelph, the University of Waterloo, and Wilfrid Laurier University, AC JumpStart has supported over 300 southern Ontario-based businesses while generating over $12.6 million in revenue and more than 1,000 jobs to Ontario’s economy since 2015.
Participating technology startups receive $30,000 in seed funding and $10,000 of in-kind business support services to help establish and grow their business in the region. Former recipients include ApplyBoard, one of Canada’s latest unicorn company with a $2 billion valuation, and NERv Technology, winner of the world’s first Entrepreneurship World Cup and its accompanying $500,000 USD prize.
“During Global Entrepreneurship Week and all year round, we applaud the amazing work being done by innovative Canadian entrepreneurs. This includes the over 300 southern Ontario-based tech companies that have received support through the AC JumpStart program. By fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, we are able to create good jobs for Canadians and help our economy recover as we work to build back better,” says the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario.
The installment highlights the entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds including stories of female founders, along with industry problem solvers and serial entrepreneurs advancing health innovations.
“AC JumpStart is a truly one-of-a-kind program for Ontario startups. The program’s sustained popularity is one of many indicators that innovation is alive and well in southern Ontario and that there is a great need in the community for the funding and supports the program provides. The latest application round was the most competitive to date, which is amazing when you consider that the program has already supported 300 plus companies since 2015,” says John Stevens, Accelerator Centre Interim CEO. “SPARK 2020 shares stories from the heart of Ontario’s innovation ecosystem, from startup founders themselves. Their shared stories give audiences an honest view into innovators lives.”
The SPARK 2020 showcase will run until December 18, 2020 and can be viewed here.
