DOHA, Qatar. Today, UBI Global, the Stockholm-based intelligence company known for high-quality intelligence, assessment and mapping of business incubation, released the top lists of business incubators and accelerators at the World Incubation Summit 2019 in Doha, Qatar. The Accelerator Centre (AC) in Waterloo, ON was recognized as a World Top Five private business accelerator. 1580 accelerators and incubators located in more than 70 countries were included in the comprehensive study.

The Accelerator Centre is Canada's only accelerator to place in the category.

The ranking is based on demonstrated exceptional achievement in value for client startups, value for the local ecosystem, overall attractiveness as a program as a whole, and nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Accelerator Program graduates boast a 93 per cent survival rate, compared to the 51 per cent national average.

“Following a rigorous data-driven approach, we assessed and benchmarked accelerator programs across the world,” says Holger Meyer, director of research at UBI Global. “Our World Benchmark Study 2019-2020 is in tune with the multiple facets of the international incubation ecosystem and illustrates key challenges and opportunities faced by the participating programs.”

Accelerator Centre CEO, Dr. Paul Salvini, attended the World Incubation Summit and spoke at the How to Build Successful Innovation Ecosystems – Best Practices from North America workshop to share the challenges and opportunities encountered by accelerators and incubators in North America.

“Receiving the official ranking of being a World Top Five business accelerator is an incredible honour and accomplishment. Exceptional programming is the focus of the Accelerator Centre, and it shows from the calibre and success of the high growth, high impact graduate companies.” -Dr. Paul Salvini

Since launching in 2006, the Accelerator Centre has worked with over 500 startups. AC clients have created over 3,650 jobs, attracted $600M in investments, and have a combined valuation of over $3B. Graduates include Canadian global successes such as Axonify, Clearpath Robotics, eleven-x, Miovision, and SSIMWAVE.

“I look forward to working with the international community through partnerships and licensing our program to help many more companies grow,” says Dr. Salvini. “The Accelerator Centre has already made a huge economic impact, and it’s exciting to know that everything we’ve accomplished so far is just the beginning. Some of Canada’s greatest success stories haven’t been told yet, and we’re ready to make them happen.”

The Accelerator Centre announced launching Canada’s first Amazon Alexa voice technology accelerator program last week.
