Making Waterloo Region Cleaner and Greener

Can Waterloo Region become Canada’s first carbon-neutral region? We believe that it can. But we need your help.

60 brilliant minds.

One BIG question.

Three noteworthy ideas.

It’s been two months since the Accelerator Centre and TD Bank Group cohosted the workshop Waterloo Region: Canada’s First Carbon-Neutral Region? at True North 2019 and our teams have had time to review all participant’s ideas.

The quantity and quality of concepts didn’t make it easy for us, but we narrowed it down to our top three favourite ideas that were generated during the workshop.

Successful clients in our TD Sustainable Future Program and impactful businesses following graduation would likely be:

      - Utilizing AI to take waste separation out of the hands of the public. The sorting robot would sort and separate mixed materials upon curbside pickup. Currently, all mixed materials get sent to landfills. This innovation would result in extreme waste diversion.

     - Community-focused solar energy panels that would be used as an energy source for communal spaces such as lighting a park bathroom.

      - Gamification to motivate and educate residents on how to track their green initiatives and build them into a habit. Potentially a reward-based model that pays out when users achieve pre-determined green goals.

Interested in working with one of these ideas?
