Late June 2020

  • AC grad Clearpath Robotics was named a finalist in the Best ROS Robot category of the 2020 ROS Awards.
  • AC grad Axonify was one of six Canadian companies to make the World Economic Forum’s 2020 Tech Pioneer list.
  • AC client Cloud DX announced $1.75 million in funding from NGen Canada to develop Pulsewave 2.0, a revolutionary solution to remotely monitoring patients sent home from the hospital, including those vulnerable/exposed to the novel coronavirus.
  • AC client AHead Simulations has developed NED, a realistic internal nasal anatomy, to enable proper standardized training to be administered at scale.
  • AC grad Intellijoint helped patients battle loneliness during pandemic isolation.
  • AC client LAUNCH Waterloo and Laurier teamed up to bring kids in Waterloo Region at-home STEAM summer camps.

July 2020

  • AC grad Top Hat, a Toronto-based edtech company with over three million post-secondary students using its products in five countries and 400+ employees, was featured in The Globe and Mail.
  • With AC client and community health top-of-mind, we implemented a phased approach surrounding the return to the physical workplace. You can read our Workplace Safety Plan: Phase 1 here.
  • AC JumpStart recipient IRIS R&D Group is fuelling innovation with connectivity by using 5G for smart cities to turn undervalued municipal vehicles into smart, connected, automated data collection systems.
  • AC client Evercloak was selected to participate in two of NGen Canada’s chosen projects surrounding new and emerging technologies, totalling one million in funding for both projects.
  • AC client Elocity received SDTC funding to further develop data-based smart controls to aid electricity distribution companies in maintaining grid stability during the rising demands of the electric vehicle revolution.
  • Regional council unanimously voted to buy Kitchener-based AC grad Miovision’s advanced traffic management system for 240 traffic signals in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo for ~$2.7 million.
  • AC grad eleven-x created a new solution to instantly measure air quality within indoor settings.
  • Brisk Synergies, recently acquired by Transoft Solutions, became the 66th graduate of The Accelerator Program!
  • AC grads Axonify, Ecopia AI and Top Hat all joined MaRS Momentum: a new progam designed to support high-growth Canadian companies with the potential to reach $100 million in revenue in the next five years.
  • The Town of Orangeville installed IRIS R&D’s smart cameras to alert officials when large groups gather to help deal with overcrowding in the time of the pandemic.
  • Sid Bhambhani, co-founder and CEO of AC client Summatti, was an expert speaker at the Global Association for Contact Center Best Practises.
AC client Universal Matter was featured in Forbes within its first year of operations: “It validates that we are working onsomething very important and shows us how important this invention is for our society at large,” says CEO John van Leeuwen.
  • AC grad Rapid Novor secured $5M USD in Series A funding to grow lab capacity andservices to advance life science for better human health.
  • AC grads Axonify, Intellijoint, SSIMWAVE and TeTechS were four of eight businesses in Waterloo Region to receive a combined ~$30M in funding from FedDev Ontario to create ~500 high-skilled jobs and commercialize new technologies.

  • AC client Hugo Fuentes of The Owl Solutions was recognized as a 2020 Canadian Immigrant Impacting Supply Chains by Supply Chain Canada.
  • Ecopia partnered with Compagnia Generale Ripreseaeree SpA to produce next-generation maps of Italy.
AC JumpStart recipient Heirlume was one of 12 companies to be selected to participate in The (first ever) Google Startups Accelerator: Women Founders from over 1,000 applicants across Canada and The USA: “Heirlume is truly honoured to be among the five Canadian startups selected to participate in Google for Startups’ first Women Founders accelerator cohort out of 1000 applicants!   • AC client EarthSuds placed first in Enactus’ 1 Race 4 Oceans competition.

  • AC JumpStart recipient Brink Bionics raised $350,000 in seed financing to commercialize a wearable glove that allows PC gamers to activate time-critical game commands directly to their nervous system.
  • eleven-x launched its real-time smart parking sensor for stall-based occupancy monitoring—a game changer for governments & organizations looking to better understand parking usage and occupancy trends.
  • AC cleantech specialist Brandon Moffatt was named to MaRS Discovery District's list of 10 Canadian cleantech entrepreneurs you need to know.
