AcMed is currently developing a low cost, easy to use medical device for non-invasive cardiac monitoring. This technology will monitor the hemodynamics, the blood and oxygen supply of the critical organs, of patients. The company has developed a prototype and is conducting a clinical study in collaboration with local medical schools, including McMaster University and University of Western Ontario.

Miovision Technologies is the product of research conducted at the University of Waterloo. Miovision takes standard video and tracks objects, such as vehicles and people, as they move through a scene. Currently, this technology is being used for traffic data collection; however, there are many other potential uses for the technology. The company is focused on providing tools for each component of the traffic study process including collection, management and analysis. Semacode was one of the initial clients of the Accelerator Centre. After leaving Apple Computer, Simon Woodside, the company's founder, developed software that enables mobile phones with cameras to read bar codes. The technology has many potential applications including mobile marketing and promotions, and field force automation. SmartPatterns Inc. creates design software for both consumers and professional needle arts designers. SmartPatterns' first product will enable the non-designer knitters the ability to quickly and visually design a knit garment such as a sweater without any pattern making knowledge. CellScale logo

CellScale develops research instruments for the analysis of natural tissue and replacement biomaterials. Our customers are researchers involved in investigating soft-tissue disease or innovating new medical treatments. Our initial product release provides biaxial analysis of small geometry samples. CellScale's technologies were initially developed through the collaboration of local entrepreneurs and the University of Waterloo's Biomechanics Lab, operated by Dr. Wayne Brodland.www.cell-scale.com.
