If you have ever watched an NHL game with another person, you have inevitably been told a story about the multi-million dollar paid, highly skilled player that just scored a goal on TV. "I used to play against that guy" someone will say. "Well, my neighbour did. He told me they were playing in a tournament with 23 other teams about 10 years ago and one of the teams had a guy who knew a girl whose brother once played road hockey on the same street as that guy who just scored for the Leafs."
My opening title "Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber join the Accelerator Centre…kind of" is nowhere near that bad. What I can tell you is that the talent managers, Troy Carter, the widely recognized manager for multi-platinum Grammy award winner Lady Gaga; and Scooter Braun, manager for teenage singing phenomenon Justin Bieber, have recently contributed to a seed fund for Accelerator Centre Client, Enflick. Both managers are widely respected in their field and also as independent investors.
It has been a great week for Enflick, "a leading provider of high quality and affordable social software solutions designed to change the way that individuals connect with each other online." The company, led by founders Derek Ting and Jon Lerner, both University of Waterloo graduates, secured over $1 million in funding and won a prestigious Companies-to-Watch Award that honours Canadian technology companies that have been in business for less than five years.
TextNow and PingChat! are Enflick's two flagship products serving over 21 million users worldwide. It is an amazing accomplishment, and we are very proud of the entire Enflick team. You can read much more about their latest news here and can find their website here.
By the way, do you know the highest scoring brothers in the history of the NHL? The Gretzkys. Wayne: 2,857 points; Brent: 4 points. I used to play against Brent. True story.
