A Lesson in Social Entrepreneurship

By Anne Ramsay - 4 months ago

Wikipedia defines social entrepreneurship as the work of a social entrepreneur.  So what exactly is a social entrepreneur?  Wikipedia goes on to define a social entrepreneur as "someone who recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change."  We all recognize social problems when we see them, but even if our hearts are brimming with compassion, few of us have the amount time and resources that it takes to initiate any major social change.  For this reason, it is important that we all come together to share ideas, as well as man-and-womanpower.

On Monday, March 29, there is an event being held that aims to do just that. Venture4Change, an initiative of Capacity Waterloo Region, is "A Summit for People with Powerful Ideas."  Taking place at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, this event features Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's  -- a real social entrepreneur .  If you have powerful ideas, share them!  Register now for this event at www.venture4change.com

For those who may not already be aware, Capacity Waterloo Region has office space right here at the AC.  If you have questions about this event, or would like more information on social entrepreneurship and ways to get involved, contact Andrew Wilding of Capacity Waterloo Region (andrew@capacitywaterlooregion.ca) or visit their website at http://capacitywaterlooregion.ca/.
